I was so excited when I my new issue of Flare in the mail. First off it’s a big magazine this month. Second, there’s a special on fall fashion. Third, it’s Flare’s 3oth anniversary.
The covergirl is Canada’s own Daria Werbowy. Three covers featuring Daria are included in this edition and an article about her. There’s a ton about the new fashion trends for fall as well as a great piece about the top ten designers of the last thirty years. Flare also includes a couple great looks back over their 30 year history. I didn’t realize Canada didn’t have a national fashion magazine til Flare came along!

There’s also a piece on the pros and cons of using synthetic vs natural and organic ingredients in perfume. Included in this issue is a guide to picking the best sunscreen for your skin type. And last but not least is a layout of iconic pieces – things you should have in your closet that are timeless.

Flare March 2009
The March issue of Flare arrived in my mailbox last week. There’s a great article about the rise of Canadian designers and the attention they’re getting outside of Canada as well. There’s a layout of uptown vs downtown looks. Also included are three makeup lessons. Tim Blanks wrote an article about Rio and it’s beachwear.
I babysit one of the cutest 21 month olds ever. Last week while I was babysitting him I brought Flare to read while the little guy was entertaining himself. He loves looking at books, and when he saw me looking at my magazine he wanted to read it with me. So we enjoyed it together – not that he had any idea what he was looking at. A couple weeks ago we ‘read’ a tool catalogue. Basically if it has pages he’ll read it. How cute is that?
PS For the most part everyone looked absolutely beautiful last night at the Oscars. My favorites had to be Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive. By the way, did you hear what SJP said on the red carpet??? Another Sex and the City movie is in the works!

Flare November 2008
I was so excited when I got my November issue of Flare in the mail last week. Emma Watson, the actress who plays Hermione Granger was on the cover! In case you’ve been under a rock for the last ten or so years, Hermione is one of the characters in Harry Potter. Anyone who knows me knows that I love all things Potter, so I couldn’t wait to read the article and see what she was wearing. There’s even a page full of Emma’s favorite things. I can’t believe how grown up she looks. There’s also a great article on Flare’s beauty editor’s best picks for the season. Want sexy looking hair? Look no further than the article with all the facts that you need to keep your hair looking great.

Flare Canada October 2008
The cover girl this month is Kate Hudson. One of my favorite articles is the one on green beauty, highlighting the most eco friendly beauty companies. There’s also a great article on fall’s hottest accessories. As October is Breast Cancer Awareness month there’s an inspiring article about one woman’s battle against breast cancer and her ability to stay positive.

Flare August 2008
There’s a great article in the new Flare Canada about beauty and makeup trends for the fall. I love seeing the darker colors. One thing that really stuck out for me is the nail polish. It looks like it’s going to be metallics (gold and silver) and blacks and grays. I’m super excited about this, I can’t wait. I especially like the silver.
There’s also a great editorial on Canadian designers. I love learning more about the Canadian fashion scene (yes, it does exist) and am stoked that it’s getting some much needed attention.
What beauty and fashion magazines do you read? I enjoy Flare Canada, of course, In Style, Marie Claire, and Elle Canada. I find it really frustrating to find something that I love in a magazine and then find out that it’s either not available in Canada or only in Toronto or Vancouver, hence my love of Flare and Elle.
